COVID-19 VACCINATION

We are a COVID-19 Vaccination Provider. Springvale South Medical Centre is an approved vaccination provider for the AstraZeneca, Moderna & Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for patients with a valid Medicare card. We are happy to help provide COVID-19 immunisation for our local area and wider community.

The type of vaccine you can have depends on your age and in some cases, whether you have certain medical conditions.

If you are aged 12 and over, you can have the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

If you are aged 18 and over, you can also get the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

Children aged 5 to 11 will receive a smaller dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.  This vaccine has been created specifically for young children.

How long do I have to wait before getting my second dose of COVID-19 vaccine?

It depends on the vaccine.

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses should be given 3 to 6 weeks apart after the first dose for 12 and over.  The vaccine should be given 8 weeks after the first dose for the 5-11 age group.

Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses should be given 4 to 6 weeks apart.

AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses should be given 6 to 12 weeks apart.

When can I get my Covid booster shot?

If you are severely immunocompromised, you should get your third dose from 2 to 6 months after getting your second dose.  A third dose is not classified as a booster.  If you think you may fall in the severely immunocompromised category, please book a telehealth appointment with one of our doctors before booking in your third dose.

For everyone else, a booster dose of an mRNA vaccine (is recommended if you had your second dose at least 3 months ago.  You can get a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for the booster, regardless of which COVID-19 vaccine you received for your intial doses.

AstraZeneca can be used as a third dose if you:

- recieved AstraZeneca for your first two doses, and there are no contraindications or precautions for use.

- had a significant adverse reaction to a previous mRNA vaccine dose that means you cannot have another dose of an mRNA vaccine.
If you are not sure which third dose you are eligible for, speak to one of our GPs.
